Lawton Public Schools is excited to announce the new addition of a virtual school, Lawton Virtual Academy (LVA). 2019-2020 will kick off the official pilot year for the Academy. LVA will service Lawton Public Schools (LPS) students entering grades 9-12 who desire to learn in a unique setting.

“LVA is important for students at LPS because it gives another option for learning,” said Jennifer Mason, assistant principal of Lawton Virtual Academy. “In our ever-changing world, the need to evolve is instrumental when it comes to education. As the world changes, the way students think, learn, and see the world are different.”

\r\n

The Academy is a chance for students to expand their educational opportunities in a way that works for them. There will be a limited number of spaces available during the pilot year.

\r\n

Mason understands the need to reach students who, for whatever reason or circumstance, are in search of a different way to learn.

\r\n

“The reasons students leave brick and mortar classroom settings are vast,” she said, “and Lawton is able to offer students the best of both worlds.”

\r\n

While the traditional schoolwork can be completed online, LVA students still have the opportunity to participate in LPS sports, extra-curricular activities, and more. A blended approach to learning is the vision for LVA.

\r\n

Core classes and diverse electives will be available through OdysseyWare. Students in need of technology to complete the coursework will have the opportunity to check out a Chrome book from LPS.

\r\n

All students will be supported by qualified, certified teachers. Applications are available online at www.lawtonps.org under Menu>LPS Documents>Lawton Virtual Academy Applications.\r\n
