Highlander Battalion Grand Champions

The Highlander JROTC Battalion is busy this school year, as members traveled to and from Texas in back-to-back weeks in October to compete in drill meets. The Highlander Battalion competed in the Top of Texas Drill Meet against 16 other teams on Oct. 5 in Wichita Falls. Their hard work resulted in several victories.

The Varsity Unarmed Drill Team, commanded by Cadet 2nd Lieutenant (2LT) Bailey Ruggieri, won third place in the Regulation Phase and third place in the Inspection Phase. Ruggieri won second place as the Unarmed Drill Team Commander.

\r\n

The Male Color Guard Team, commanded by Cadet Private First Class Jessie Gaede, won first place during the Inspection Phase. In the Male Physical Fitness Competition, Cadet Anthony Smith won second place in the Standing Long Jump and first place in the 300-meter Shuttle Run.

On Oct. 12, the Highlander Battalion competed in and won first place Grand Champions in the Mansfield Tigers Drill Meet in Mansfield, Texas against 22 Army, Air Force and Marine teams.

The Unarmed Drill Team won first in the Regulation Phase, second in both the Exhibition Phase and Inspection Phase, and first overall in Unarmed Drill. Ruggieri won first place as Unarmed Drill Team Commander.

\r\n

The Armed Drill Team, commanded by Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Dante' Aguilar, won second place in the Armed Regulation Phase. The Male Color Guard Team and the Female Color Guard Team, commanded by Cadet Command Sergeant Major Naschelle Morris, both won first place in the Performance Phase and second place overall. Morris also won first place as Female Color Guard Commander.
