LPS Announces Hime as New Superintendent

Lawton, OK – Lawton Public Schools Board of Education completed its search for the district’s new Superintendent at the December 9 meeting with a unanimous vote for Kevin Hime. Hime will assume his leadership duties beginning July 1, 2020.\r\n

\r\n

“It was important to use the services of OSSBA for the superintendent search to ensure we had the most qualified candidates,” school board member Kent Jester said. “We wanted a candidate who would fulfill the needs and requirements of the position so that we can build upon our many strengths and continue to grow in all areas.”\r\n

\r\n

Hime, who is currently serving as the Clinton Public Schools superintendent, is enthusiastic to join the LPS team.\r\n

\r\n

“I am so thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to join the Lawton community as the new superintendent,” he said. “I know there are incredible things going on in the district and I look forward to working with the staff, parents and community members towards a bright and rewarding future for our youth.”\r\n

\r\n

Hime began his education career as a high school history teacher and coach in Hugo. He went on to teach in Woodward and Idabel; served as athletic director and elementary principal at Detroit Texas ISD; and served as superintendent at Woodland Public Schools. He became Clinton superintendent in 2011.\r\n

\r\n

Hime holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Southeastern Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree in educational administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.\r\n

\r\n

Professionally, he has served as past president of the Oklahoma Association of School Business Officials, past president of the Southwestern Oklahoma School Administrator Association, president of the United Suburban School Association, member of the University of Oklahoma Education Professions Division Advisory Council, chair of the OSSBA For the People (Physical Resources Committee) and member of the State Department of Education Teacher Shortage task force. He also presented at various education conferences on topics which include finance, school communication, safety, equity, innovation and technology.\r\n

He has been involved in the Clinton community, serving as past president of the Clinton Rotary Club and member of the Custer County Health Board.\r\n

\r\n

Jester said the board was impressed by Hime’s abilities with bond projects, financial management and passion for education.\r\n

\r\n

“The board was immediately drawn to his enthusiasm and energy,” Jester said. “He embodies the qualities and characteristics identified by our staff and community members during the superintendent search process. We know the district will be in great hands under his leadership.”\r\n
