LPS Students Nominated for Athletic Scholarship Award
In September, Lawton Public Schools (LPS) students Blake Eastwood and Will Trachte received recognition from the Great American Rivalry Series for top student athletes selected by the series.
\r\nEastwood and Trachte are now in the running for the Great American Rivalry Series Hall of Fame – a prestigious honor that also bears a scholarship award aimed at highlighting sporting and academic excellence.\r\n
\r\nEastwood, from Lawton High, is a multi-year letterman who had an impressive performance in the September football game versus Eisenhower High. This, alongside his 4.07 GPA work to qualify him for this honorable award.
\r\nTrachte, from Eisenhower, also stood out amongst his peers both on the field and in the classroom during the game and earning a 35 on his ACT.
\r\n“I love football, but [most importantly] it's academics – school first.” Eastwood said. “It kind of surprised me to get recognized like that.”\r\n
\r\nTrachte, the chosen athlete from Eisenhower High, provided some insight into his support system.\r\n
\r\n“My parents and grandparents have always supported me,” Trachte said, “by resetting my mind in the summer through traveling different places and meeting new people.”\r\n
\r\nTrachte plans to go on to college to become an oral surgeon – a profession that will allow him to support his current and future family just as they have supported him.\r\n
