Congratulations to Lawton High School (LHS) Junior Keayla Anderson! She is the 2019 State of Oklahoma Poetry Out Loud (POL) Champion. She bested students from twenty-one other Oklahoma high schools. She performed “Perhaps the World Ends Here” by Joy Harjo, “To the Poor” by Anna Laetitia Barbauld,” and “What Women Are Made Of” by Bianca Lynne Spriggs. She now moves on to the National Championship in Washington, DC, in late April.
Keayla is the sixth State of Oklahoma POL Champion from LHS—she follows in the footsteps of Catherine Horton in 2010, Denise Burns in 2012 and 2013 (when she finished third in the nation), and Kristine Guerrero in 2017 and 2018.
